Welcome to my adventures in education!

Welcome! My name is Karena Bowers Morrison, and I currently reside in the sunny state of Florida. I am a passionate educator pursuing my master's degree in Curriculum and Instruction with a focus on Gifted Education at Liberty University. With a strong belief in the power of the responsible use of technology in transforming learning, I am excited to share my journey and insights through this blog as part of my Technology Practices for Instructional Improvement course.

I have always been fascinated by the possibilities that technology offers in creating dynamic, interactive, and inclusive learning environments. Some of my favorite tools include interactive whiteboards, tablets for my learners' use in the classroom and educational apps like iXL, Nearpod, and Kahoot. I also enjoy exploring platforms like Wix to design engaging digital content for learners and educators alike.

In addition to being an educator, I am a published author of The Serial Volunteer Guide to Empowered Volunteerism. Through this book, I share the transformative power of volunteerism by highlighting the inspiring journeys of grassroots nonprofits, such as Mothers Of Minors, Investigation Station, You're Built For This, Rescue Pink, and the Zwagil Foundation. The guide provides real-life stories, data-driven insights, and practical strategies for anyone looking to make a difference while encouraging readers to embrace volunteering as both an act of kindness and a way of life. Proceeds from verified reviews that mention one of the featured nonprofits are donated to their missions, amplifying the spirit of giving back.

When I am not working on lesson plans for my first-grade learners, studying for my courses at Liberty University or collaborating with my colleagues and nonprofit leaders in my community, I am busy wearing many hats as an:

  • Advisor to locally focused nonprofit missions in my community

  • Advocate for underrepresented gifted learners, focusing on identifying and supporting giftedness in children from diverse backgrounds.

  • A proud "serial volunteer" dedicated to making a positive and meaningful impact in my community

On a more personal note, I love writing, especially about ways to empower learners and educators. I am also a self-proclaimed tech tinkerer and self-taught website designer who loves discovering how technology can bridge gaps and foster connections in education.

I hope this blog becomes a space where I can showcase my work, share ideas, and reflect on how technology continues to shape the educational landscape. Thank you for stopping by, and I look forward to connecting with you!
