Mrs. Karena Bowers Morrison
I have lived in Clearwater, Florida, for the past 22 years with my husband and three children, and I am a native of St. Petersburg, Florida. I earned my B.A. in Exceptional Student Education with Reading and ESOL Endorsements from St. Petersburg College in 2023, and I am currently pursuing my M.Ed in Curriculum and Instruction with a focus on Gifted Education at Liberty University while teaching a classroom of first-grade learners who bring joy to my heart each day at Pinellas Academy of Math and Science.
I have experienced the power of technology while creating dynamic, inclusive, and engaging learning environments for individuals of all ages. Some of my favorite tools include interactive whiteboards, tablets for my learners' use, and computer-based educational resources like iXL, Nearpod, and Kahoot. Empowering families with tools that they can utilize with their children's learning adventures at home is the most impactful use of these tools. Exploring online platforms has also sparked my creativity in designing digital content that bridges gaps and fosters connection.
In addition to teaching, I’m the author of The Serial Volunteer Guide to Empowered Volunteerism, a book that incorporates my life story as a "serial volunteer," tips for effectively impacting your community, and highlights the impact of grassroots nonprofits whom I have personally supported with the mission to inspire more individuals to embrace the transformative power of giving back.
When I’m not in the classroom or working on my studies, I dedicate my time to advising locally-focused and all-volunteer-operated nonprofits with a personal mission to make a positive difference as a “serial volunteer” in my community.
This blog is a space to share my journey, ideas, and reflections on how technology continues to shape education.
Thank you for visiting, and I look forward to connecting with you!
